Steps to a Proper Installation Process :
-
Select the right terminal product and wire. The lug shall be compatible with the size of the wire being terminated.
-
Strip insulation from wire so that bare wire is just visible outside of the cable lug or connecter.
-
Once the insulation is removed make sure all strands of copper are in the terminal barrel.
-
Use the proper crimp tool and squeeze the tool handle firmly to perform the crimp.
-
If multiple crimps are required then make first crimp in the barrel nearest the tongue of the lug or wire stop in a butt splice, and make successive crimps in the barrel working towards the conductor entry at the end of the barrel.
Note: Proper crimping is the most important element of an overall Installation process. If the correct tools are used and the proper procedures followed, then crimp-on connections becomes more effective electrically, as well as mechanically. A visual inspection should be done which can avoid terminal failure. |
